Exceptional place to stay. Clean facilities. Beautiful private and public thermal pools. Great location. Quick and easy check in and check out. Can’t recommend more. Me and my partner came for a stay for our anniversary weekend, romantic setting perfect for anyone wanting to share it with their loved ones. Delightful stay

We stayed at Baycrest during our first visit to New Zealand in 2007 and it’s still a great choice for the Taupo area. Our room was huge with a lovely balcony and views of the lake. It was very clean and the bed was comfortable. There was also AC which was a real plus in 75-80F weather. The property is in good condition, and they offer free parking and also have a small pool. We were grateful to have access to laundry ($4NZD for a wash and $4NZD to dry) after hiking the Tongariro Northern Circuit. The managers were so kind and helpful. When we couldn’t get an uber or cab, they drove us with all of our bags up to pick up our rental car. The one downside for us is that we didn’t have a rental car for most of our days there. There are a few Ubers and taxis but not many and town is a 1.5 mi walk (about 30 min). But if you have a car, it won’t be a problem. Also, there’s a great little coffee truck right by the lake near Baycrest that opens at 7:30am if you don’t want to go into town first thing.

Really lovely small inn our room is spacious and has a lovely patio with the lake view. Staff is very friendly and text us directly to us for check in information. Appreciate it.

Location and great hospitality

An extremely warm welcome from Karen on reception who made us feel at home and gave us information on the local area. The room was big and very clean as was the bathroom. We had a lovely view of the lake from our balcony. It was only just over a mile to walk into the Centre which was an easy walk alongside the lake. A really enjoyable stay and would stay again.

Great location, spacious rooms with a nice view of the lake.
Peaceful and comfortable. Loved the hot pool. Everyone was friendly. Nice not being on the main road. There was nothing I would complain about as everything was perfect 🥰

This is my third time here with family and I love this place! The rooms are spacious (we have a family room), clean and well-appointed. It has a kitchenette, couch, bed and dining table in the main room, a separate bedroom and a massive bathroom with a spa bath. We have a balcony overlooking the lake and the air conditioning is great for chilly weather. But the best thing of all is the delightful pool to swim in at the end of the day. It isn’t really large but you can swim around and it is surrounded by boulders and plants so is very pretty. Place has a relaxed vibe too, no one is uptight. Highly recommend!!!!
Book the Terrace Room with Geothermal Bath!
Great place to stay in Taupo, a 15 minute walk into the centre of town. The accommodation is really reasonably priced and has great views of the lake. We had a terrace room with a geothermal hot tub which was really a highlight and made our experience here great!
The motel met every expectation
2-night stay. What a wonderful find! The motel met every expectation and we had a superlative stay. Booked here because of the private thermal pool, which was tremendous; we also had a private garden and a view (albeit, standing up) of the lake – which we hadn’t expected.
The room (allocated the accessible option) was a great size, with an exceptionally comfy bed and everything we needed for a perfect stay. The motel team were brilliant and so helpful; nothing was ever too much trouble. I particularly liked the power outlet hub on the bedside table which had x3 USB ports, making the multiple charging requirements of this modern age simple and convenient.
The local town was within walking distance for me, even needing to push my disabled wife in her wheelchair. However, I enjoy the exercise – I guess it may be a little far for some as probably close to a mile each way.
In summary, very highly recommended.
